Autumn Wedding Theme

Posted on Saturday 7 April 2007

The autumn is the second most popular wedding season right after the summer. And there are good reasons for this: The weather is still warm, the nature shines golden, the days are getting shorter and people try to be home early for a comfy evening with their family.
It is the perfect time for a romantic wedding…

Reception Setting
The fall is the time to harvest the field, to fill the granary and enjoy the abundance of fruits available. Good venues for the wedding reception are buildings like mills, barns, castles, old churches, -buildings which reflect the season. Keep an eye out for old and dark places that are shining warmth. The Colors of your wedding should reflect this, too: yellow, brown, gold, burgundy, orange and similar colors are great for an autumn wedding theme.

Food
You really have a lot of adequate food to choose from when you are celebrating an autumn-themed wedding. Strong and rich are the keywords here. Start with a potato soup (maybe from a hollowed out pumpkin?). For the main course go with roast-beef, roasted turkey, suckling pig, salad, potatoes, corncobs and other delicious food of the season. You can use ingredients like honey to give your meal a golden and sweet autumn-touch, too. And ask your caterer what his suggestions are for a typical autumn feast, he sure will have some more good ideas. As desserts you could serve pumpkin pie, hazelnut cookies, maple pies, candied pears/apples or vanilla ice with honey. Yummy! And your wedding cake could look like this:

Decoration
Use everything the harvest offers you for the decoration of the venue. Use burlap-bags as table clothes for the centre of the table. Put a bucket full with fruits of the seasons on the tables, but don’t be too surprised if some of your guests take a little snack from them. Or you can make jack-o-lanterns, but instead of scary faces carve some happy ones or ornaments in the pumpkin. For great table-centerpieces you can fill glass cylinders with nuts or coffee-beans and put candles in them. Or just put candles in shape of apples and pears (You even could paint a wedding dress on one pear-shaped candle and a suit on another and go for the old “bridal pear” joke) on the tables. Ornaments made of twigs and leaves are fitting decoration ideas, too.

Wedding Favors
Why don’t you give your attendants a glass of honey on their way home? You can make labels easily with a computer and a printer. Write the wedding date and a personal quote on the label. Or print a picture of the bridal pair on it. Another tasty favors are self-made cookies. If you want to give your guest something more romantic, then you can go with some nice tea for the long evening hours to come. If there is a good tea-shop nearby, you can even ask them to blend a special wedding tea for you. And do not forget that you can personalize the label on the teabags, too. Herbal sachets are another great romantic wedding favor, too. I hope this article gave you some ideas how to make your autumn wedding a romantic and unforgettable experience for you and your guests.
